People have always painted faces for fun, for ritual, for ceremony, and nowadays with so many beautiful colours available (including neon and metallic), the age-old practice of face painting is a widespread way for modern kids to enjoy themselves. Face painting is an art form like no other because your canvas is a person. Everybody’s face has its own shape, which will inspire lines and tones of its own.
Modern face painting uses a combination of China and Japan's One-Stroke and black Ink Paint techniques.
Using the One-Stroke brush technique, I have applied (above) multiple colours on a single brush to create a beautiful firey effect - a single brush-stroke. Then again using One-stroke I use blues and purple to create a flower - each petal a single stroke. Using Sumi-e Black Ink Painting technique (with colour rather than just black) I draw the leaves - with this technique the emphasis is on the beauty of each brush stroke as an element of the picture.
